As a person with a treeless yard and no shade, except from shadows cast by the house, I have to say I love a good shade garden. They’re also remarkably delightful during a stinking hot garden tour. Those are the ones where people hang around and gab while they’re cooling off.

The first time I saw mirrors in the garden was in the dark corner of a Japanese-inspired garden. The mirrors were mounted behind some trellis on the back fence. It was so effective, both opening up the space but adding a little optical illusion-mystery to it. These hanging mirrors work very well in this tree shade:
