We’ve been robbed! Robbed of the word ‘amazing’. It’s used so commonly these days that when something really is amazing, the word doesn’t deliver the message strongly enough.
Example? Bees! There are over 20,000 species and their abilities are truly astonishing with so many brilliant systems in place, both for survival, production, and communication.
Despite a severe allergy, I have always been intrigued by bees. One of my favourite parts of spending time in the garden is simply watching what the bees are up to.
Some are wild bees, others are domesticated (kept by beekeepers), gathering up nectar or pollen, and travelling off to their colonies or hives.
Sometimes there are so many in the garden at once—all different shapes, colours, and sizes—it’s hard to believe they all have homes within flying distance.
This gallery has some of my favourite bee snap shots from my garden. See how many types you recognize.
