After experimenting with various homemade soap recipes, this is my favourite.
There are free instructions for soap making here.
This recipe makes a super creamy soap that is great for cleaning really grubby hands. I use it wheneveer I come in from the garden -and it’s gentle and perfect for everyday use as well.
Empress of Dirt Extra Creamy Soap for Grubby Gardeners
It’s gentle, unscented, lathers nicely, and gets even the filthiest gardener (me) clean.
- 85 grams almond oil
- 85 grams coco butter
- 85 grams coconut oil
- 125 grams olive oil
- 400 grams rice bran oil
- 75 grams shea butter
- 113 grams lye
- 285 grams rain water
For those of you already familiar with soap-making, I combined the heated oils with the lye when the lye was 110F and the oils were 100F. Using the stick blender, it reached trace in under one minute.
Unlike many people (it seems), I do not like anything with added scent. I have very sensitive skin and this soap leaves me feeling clean and smooth. And, for some reason, it really gets all four of my grubby paws really clean. I like it!
