These costume ideas are for gardeners and nature-lovers. Browse the ready-to-go Halloween dress-up costumes from Etsy and Amazon or get inspired to create your own. Plants, animals, weather, and insider jokes are all included.

If you are decorating for Halloween and want a decorative pumpkin without the mess, use these no-carve pumpkin ideas.

Halloween Costume Ideas

These ideas are for anyone wanting a garden or nature-themed costume for Halloween or some other dress-up party or cosplay event.

I poured through Etsy and Amazon to pick anything that fit these themes.

Since we only have the listing pictures to refer to, be sure to read the details carefully if you choose to purchase something.

Check everything including shipping details, size, and materials to be sure the item suits your needs.

I also listed some ideas for those who like creating their own homemade costumes from scratch using some combination of stuff found around the house and thrifted items.

More Costume Ideas

I come from the era where your Halloween costume was made from whatever you had around the house or could borrow from a local theatre group.

Today, people come up with such fun ideas and I’m here for it. Whether it’s elaborate or simple, hopefully a good time is had by all.

Once you have an idea, try browsing Google images for more inspiration.

Climate Change & Invasive Species Costume Ideas

These costume themes are most unfortunately timely and trending! Hopefully they generate some good conversations, healthy debate, and action.

Climate Change & Warming Planet

Ideas to include in costume:

  • Earth – melting, rising sea levels, flooding
  • Storms – hurricane, tornado, wildfires, heat waves
  • Species – decline or extinction of plant or animal species
  • Mars – ticket salesperson for one-way trips to Mars
  • Plastic pollution ~ single-use plastics ~ wasted resources

Invasive Plant or Animal Species

  • Create a costume representing an invasive plant or animal species in your region
  • Dress up as someone employed to remove the invasive species
  • Dress as a plant covered in the invasive species (e.g. Japanese beetles)

Pollution & Waste

  • Plastic pollution ~ single-use plastics ~ wasted resources
  • I’m sure I’ll keep adding ideas. It’s endless, really.
  • Get resourceful and make your costume entirely from garbage or discarded items.

Happy Halloween.
