Come along as we look at examples of backyard garden ponds with bridges. These pictures come from home gardens and include both DIY and store-bought styles.
If you’re ready to install a pond, this idea gallery features backyard ponds in various sizes and designs for all budgets.
Garden Pond Bridge Ideas
These garden pond bridges were photographed during home garden tours. Some are made from wood and either stained or painted, others are metal.
I do not have building plans for any of these—they are just ideas to inspire your garden pond design.
There are bridge plans and kits here on Etsy. Do your research regarding size, safety, and what’s included. And check if your local municipality requires a permit first.
Metal Bridge Over Creek
This is the same bridge from two different viewpoints.
The heron garden art (see similar heron here at Etsy) fits right in. There’s also quite a frog collection.
Wood Bridge Without Railings
The first thing I noticed at this garden (above) is how the bridge looks nice but does not have any railings. You might want to check on local building codes to see if railings are required where you are.
It would look nice lined with flowers pots across the arch.
Red Garden Bridges
Red seems to be a popular paint color for garden bridges, probably because it stands out so nicely.
This next red bridge goes over a waterway in the middle of this country property. It’s quite perfect amidst the greenery and giant willow trees.
You can’t quite see it in the picture, but as I walked beside the water, a beaver was swimming beside me at the same pace.
Tall Wooden Bridge
This bridge has no pond. It is built next a ravine and fits nicely over a little gully in the garden.
The sign says “No Fishing From Bridge” which makes sense given the fact that there is no water.
There are more garden sign ideas here.
Pond Decks
These next ones are not bridges but another good option—decking alongside ponds. If you want a place to sit and enjoy the pond, and, in this case, feed the giant koi, build a deck right next to the pond. It’s obviously not suited to little kids but fine otherwise.
These pictures (above and below) show more examples of decks or wooden pathways next to or running across garden ponds.
Sometimes they are simply functional, allowing access from A to B. I also like how they create shade and hiding spots for the pond fish below—something my fish seem to appreciate in my garden.
I’ll leave you with two favorite related photos.
First, this dear little toad who was daydreaming in my pond as it rained.
And a bridge at a nearby trail leading over the creek and into the sunshine.
